There were so many lovely ideas on Lolly’s post this week about keeping a baby journal. It seems everyone is keen to keep a record of all those special moments but mostly we just forget! I was personally always a bit upset that my older sisters book was full of dates and information and cute little letters and stories. Mine had my birth date and then dwindled. Second child syndrome I guess! I have done exactly the same with Alice so I now understand!
I really struggled to find books I liked so to help you along I thought I’d share five of our favourite baby record books with you all.
I had the Cicada Baby Journal as I fell in love with it’s quirky illustrations and cute pockets for tucking mementoes. On the front it has ‘The Story Of..’ and you can fill in their name. Then throughout there are all sorts of sweet little pockets for storing things like your scan photos or space to write your own account of things like the journey home. Then there are cute illustrations of clocks for recoding their routine as well as a few helpful hints and tips along the way.
This is a slightly different book. Rather than being a record book it is more of a journal. Covering five years it asks one question a day which you answer to keep a record of the first five years of your little one’s life. It obviously requires a bit of commitment and writing but it would be so amazing to look back at in years to come.
I adore the typographical style of the Illustries books. Lots of prompts and areas to fill in in a gorgeously fun styling. They come in a range of colours and if you have bigger kids they do a family book too which looks perfect for recording all the memories.
I spied this book and I loved the idea of it. Instead of simply filling in spaces you write letters to your child at various points and pop them in the envelopes. I always had grand plans to write beautifully scripted letters to the girls and then failed miserably. I just think it makes the most wonderful thing to look back on in years to come.
Matt bought this gorgeous Peter Rabbit Record book for Fern as a present on Elle’s first Christmas. There may have been tears.
Did you buy a baby book and do you have any that you can recommend?
{SHOP THE POST}
I bought this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1846012627/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 after trawling through loads of reviews…there’s a bit of a spell of waiting and kicking my heels now…I’ve filled in the initial ‘how we felt when we found out we were pregnant’ bits and pieces, and now we’re waiting for The Event To Happen. I think I may top it up and add hand written letters on birthdays etc (best laid plans I’m sure..!)
Oh that’s super cute Anna. I love that you have started filling it all in already, so cute and SO exciting. Do try and do the letters if you remember/have time/energy! I wish I had. Maybe I could back date them?! x
I ordered this gorgeous one once I’d past the 12 week mark in my pregnancy https://www.amazon.co.uk/Expecting-You-Keepsake-Pregnancy-Journal/dp/1938298349. The mustard, grey and mint patrerned pages and beautiful typography mean this is a very stylish little keepsake. I’ve LOVED filling it in and with less than 2 weeks to go it’s so nice to look back at my pregnancy journey. It is interspersed with quotes about the joy of becoming a parent and the wonder that is growing a brand new human. The last section is for recording details of the birth with the last page starting ‘when I first saw you…’. Exciting!!!
