I ruddy love Christmas so I apologise if I am bombarding you with with festive posts. I’m pretty sure you will all be getting in the spirit though if you little one’s have anything to do with it.
Today is all about Christmas stockings. Those cute things that will be hung ready for Santa to fill with goodies come Christmas eve. If you need suggestions for what to pop in them then check out Lolly’s stocking filler post earlier this week.
I normally make the girls stocking. I love creating them and sewing them is part of the Christmas fun for me. However, I am undecided as to whether to make a new one this year. Laura and I were having this debate the other day. Part of me wants to make a new one as I love choosing fabric and trimmings but part of me wants them to have the same one. Laura said she wanted Bertie to have the same stocking all her life and I love that. I still have my same red and white knitted stocking that I had every year as a kid. So whilst I deliberate on this matter I started searching for some cute ideas and came across a whole host of lovely stockings that I just had to share with you.
I am absolutely in love with this Liewood bunny stocking from Scandi Born. No it isn’ in festive shades but it is all out adorable. It is also reversible so they could have the cute grey bunny or it could be turned inside out to have a simple cream dot design.
This lovely bright red star design from John Lewis just looks so cosy and wintery. Perfect for hanging by the fire.
This fairisle knitted stocking from The White Company is the sort of classic design that could be used for years to come.
Who could resist a little reindeer stocking like this one from Marks & Spencer.
For you monochrome lovers I stumbled across these beauties from House Doctor at Monpote. Gorgeous simple designs with a cute leather stitches label reading ‘something extra from Santa’.
And finally I couldn’t not include a red and white striped number that harks back to my childhood favourite. This one can be personalised with your child’s name so Santa knows exactly where to leave the presents.
And I musn’t forget the most important question. Do you get a stocking yourself too?!
Yesterday whilst I was rummaging in the loft I stumbled upon Bertie’s stocking and was really glad I haven’t changed my mind. I straight away remembered filling it on the eve of her first Christmas and that’s so super special 🙂 These are all bloomin’ gorgeous though, if only my stocking receiving days weren’t over! 🙁
Oh yay Laura. Glad you are sticking to your guns. I just cannot decide. They have had a different one each year so far so I figure one more year won’t make any difference. But would I be able to make a final decision on design? I’m just not sure. I think it will all depend on if I actually have time or not! xx
I love the Christmas posts Lottie! Keep them coming! I vote for a Christmas baking one nearer the time as well 🙂 x
Hooray. There will be plenty more Christmas over the coming weeks and I shall definitely get some baking in there for you. xx
Oooo I’m on the look out for a stocking at the minute but I’m being very particular about it…..have seen some nice ones on Pottery Barn Kids, but the shipping/taxes double the price of the stocking or I might go for https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008IXLTV0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2BG4ZJMZ0SBG5&coliid=I1ZRIYJ6M4VSFE off Amazon….
I want M to have a stocking she can pass on to her kids one day and I would have loved to pass mine on to her, especially as it was knitted by my Grandma. but its just not quite what I had in mind…..!!
I loved getting our stockings out at Christmas -they always smelt a bit of satsumas and chocolate and i would hang them on my door and try and stretch it each year….!
Loving the knitted designs. I have been tempted the knit the girls one this year as it reminds me of my own childhood stocking. I still have it and it is red and white striped. It is my favourite thing to unpack. And the added benefit of a knitted stocking is that they do stretch with age! x
I just love those fair isle ones from the White Company! In Germany unfortunately we don’t do a Christmas stockings since we’re having the presents on Christmas Eve. However I’m thinking about introducing the stocking just because of the stocking! And since I am raising our little one (my husband does the German part), I might as well teach him about other traditions right?
Matalan are great for stockings this year, I’ve held out until my (most likely) last child is non before a purchased a set of proper stockings to hang. I’ve been looking around and a lot of them are upwards of £12/£15 with 5 of us that is a bit pricey before Christmas! So matalan’s £6 ones with ‘letters’ on are great they look much better in store too the website does not do them justice! http://www.matalan.co.uk/events/christmas/christmas-trees-anddecorations/s2633822/alphabet-knitted-christmas-stocking-62cm-x-19cm#XCmoj8reKLXrfGg2.97. Also, i like the plush white fluffy knitted one for me and the grey one for dad, these appear to be instore only though! But they don’t look cheap at all!
Ah I liked these but lots sold out now!
Oh no. Sorry Jane. I think everyone has gone Christmas mad this weekend as they were all in stock on Friday xx
