I had been stalking Binky Nixon’s son Walt’s nursery on instagram for a while – it’s just so full of colour and fun. Whilst we were still in the design stage of Rock My Family I thought it would be a travesty if I didn’t ask her to share it with you folks (and from a completely selfish perspective, get to have a nosey at even more of the details for myself) so it’s been a long time coming!
Apologies in advance if you want to buy every single item we have linked to – there is also a gallery full of even more nursery decor detail at the bottom of this post.
When coming to decorate Walter’s room I knew that I wanted grey somewhere, as any other room that’s painted grey in my house I have never got bored of. I found this lovely striped wallpaper in Homebase, of all places, and knew that would fit perfect for him. I wanted to inject colour in other areas, i.e. toys, signs and animal heads hehe! I was determined not to have lots of plastic fantastic everywhere and just have a nice room filled with colour and fun. Finding my own ‘Paddington Bear’ was great as I really wanted Walt to have it.
I had collected lots of little things over the years, not necessarily for a nursery just things that I really liked. The little glass balloons were bought in Venice whilst on a city break. The mustard blanket I bought from Etsy which was hand knitted in the States.
The suitcase was the first thing I bought after finding out I was pregnant, its one of Cath Kidston’s prints and I love it. The retro radio is actually a CD player, I tracked this down on Ebay and it is from Germany. The lovely wooden peg dolls were a gift but you can buy them from John Lewis.
I have collected lots of books from car boot sales, also some of his blankets and the red elephant, just a steal for 50p. The pom poms and lampshade are from Ikea. His shoe rack is an old crate which I bid for on eBay. The little star quote was something I had made on NOTHS, It’s my favourite quote ever and I wanted it printed onto something to display. The blue metal sign was also a gift.
My favourite thing of all (and one which at first my husband really didn’t like) are the animal felt heads. I saw them years ago in a shop near the coast and always thought if I have a baby I am going to buy one for their room. Well I bought two (I would have them all if I could), I just love them.
Oh one thing I must mention was that my hubs made and built the shelves out of old scaffold boards; he’s a tad proud of them!

Thank you so much for featuring Walter’s nursery. You have always been one of my fave blogs and its awesome to see his little space grace your pages! xx
I’m soo glad I demanded this to feature on here haha! now if we could just have a tour of the rest of the house Binks!! (@dottt88 from instagram here)
HAHA yes……..but I better do some house work first!
Love this post and so full of inspiration. My baby boy is not due for another 4 months but I’m also toying with the idea of a grey nursery instead of blue (hubs still needs a bit of persuasion!)
One cheeky question: Where is that robot night light from? love it!
The robot light is from Debenhams, they do a retro radio light too!
So lovely to see a bright nursery with the trend at the moment being more muted… Showing you can have grey and brights. We have the John Lewis sign as well for Zach in his room (a bargain in the sale)
I’m so glad this got featured as I too have been stalking Binkys/Walts nursery room for a while Charlotte? Love it as we still haven’t decorated room for our boy. Great to see what creative minds can do??
We would love to see yours when it’s finished too Ines! xx
? thank you Lovely. I’ll make sure to keep you posted. ??
Ahhhh this nursery is the best! So much colour and fun and so many nooks to explore. I love the foxy doorstop and the huge W above his cot too – you must let us know where you managed to find it!
Love love love it! Have bout the giraffe head as the starting point for my little boys room, think the combination of grey and brights is a total winner – now looking for a big J to complete the look 🙂 thanks for the inspiration!
Hi! I hope you dont mind me asking but where is the fox doorstop from? The nursery is brilliant!!!
The doorstop is from a home shop in Brighton but I can’t remember the name, I am so sorry!
That nursery is absolutely beautiful! I love the wardrobe at an angle, the coat hooks and all the little nic naks, just perfect x
