If you saw my home tour over on Rock My Style you will know I have a bit of a love affair with wallpaper. I just adore how it can transform a room and all you need is one roll on one wall to really make an impact.
Kids wallpapers are some of my favourites as there are some great designs and patterns out there to brighten up a nursery or little ones room. You can tailor it to be suitable for a baby, a bit more grown up or I personally think it you choose wisely most will last for many years to come. The wallpaper in what is now Alice’s room has been up for over 4 years and we still love it just as much as when we first put it up.
You can opt for fun bright patterns or more subtle prints and muted colours. Either will allow you to create a unique look that the littles will love. I will say here that some of my favourite papers are a tad pricey but the patterns are amazing and you often only need one roll. Equally you can pick up some great designs for a tenner in B&Q. The choice is yours.
I have absolutely loved putting together this list of the best wallpapers for children and even better I’m also sharing my favourite wallpapers for the rest of the house over on Rock My Style today too. I may now need to redecorate EVERYWHERE.
Imagination
When it comes to children’s rooms you can really have some fun. Use patterns and prints that will spark their imagination to encourage storytelling and make believe play.
What little one wouldn’t love to hang out in tepees all day long and this Ferm Living Natives wallpaper is the ideal backdrop. Adorned with hand drawn teepees, arrows and feathers it is just so much fun.
I have a new wallpaper crush in the form of Hibou Home. They have the most wonderfully whimsical patterns and this In to the wild wallpaper is an absolute dream. In amongst block prints of trees roam delicately detailed line drawn animals. Yes it is expensive at £70 but worth it in my book. I am trying not to look at all their other prints for fear I may make one too many purchases.
Mini Moderns are one of my favourite brands of wallpaper and I have a number of their prints in my house. They have a mid century feel and colour palette which I love. At £45 a roll they are mid range in price but have the look and quality of a much more expensive paper. This beautiful Carousel design would be ideal in a little girls rooms.
With teddy bears and little kites this Ferm Living Kite wallpaper is an adorable addition to any room.
My nephew has this Katie Bourne Cluck a Doodle Farm wallpaper and it is so cute. Any farm mad child will love it and the soft colour palette means it works in either a nursery or childrens room.
If your littles dream of adventures in space then this Paperboys Final Frontier Alien wallpaper is for you. Fun and quirky in it’s design it is a definite winner.
This Sanderson Treasure Map wallpaper is sure to be a hit with little treasure hunters as they follow the map to hunt their treasure. The black and white version would be perfect for colouring in if you are happy to let them loose with the crayons.
Dinosaurs will always remain a popular choice and this Harlequin Jolly Jurassic design contains all their favourites whilst remaining stylish enough for parents to enjoy too.
Animals & Birds
There is nothing sweeter than a little animal print for a nursery or children’s room. Safari animals, tweety birds or a cute little rabbit. They are by far and away my top choice.
Sanderson are renowned for lovely quality papers and this Two by Two design has a timeless appeal. Available in a range of colour ways I think this would be a firm favourite.
This beautiful Kerry Caffyn Animal Alphabet wallpaper has the loveliest illustrations of animals nestled amongst letters to create a wallpaper that is both educational and fun.
Do I need to say more than Flamingos. Bright and fun this would be ideal in a little girls room for £28 a roll.
Can we just talk about how amazing the new Eef Lillemor wallpaper designs are. You may be familiar with their designs as their prints adorn many a nursery on Pinterest. Panda or Koala? Or maybe the rabbit. Too much cuteness.
This Scion Animal print paper is so much fun. Bright birds sit alongside lions and elephants and I’m sure it will give hours of fun and amusement as the kids grow up and find their favourites.
I may be slightly biased here but I LOVE this Ferm Living owl wallpaper. We have it in the nursery, shown in the slider above, and put it up when it was Molly’s room. Four years later we can’t bare to change it. It is just such a fun print. Yes, it’s pricey at £65 but I used just one roll and it has been fabulous.
This Little Deer print is a snip at just £12 a roll from B&Q. So sweet and undeniably girly.
Pattern
As you know from above I have a lot of love for Ferm Living products. This is another favourite wallpaper in their classic Half Moon design available at This Modern Life. It is the sort of design that would work in a nursery or a young childs room and allows you to style it in a multitude of ways.
Mamas and Papas continue to roll out some really great graphic prints and this bright Stars wallpaper would look super fun in a nursery.
Chevron designs are sticking around and I think this blue design from B&Q would be great for boys or girls. They have styled it with co-ordinating boats but I rather like it just on it’s own.
The Farg Form Clouds is a pattern that a lot of the team love. Such a simple yet bold pattern it comes in a variety of colour ways and on a variety of products. Charlotte had the changing mat in the grey print and I love the wallpaper just as much. Molly would probably opt for the pink colour option I’m sure!
I love this Scion rain cloud design. Yet another fantastic pattern from this brand and such a simple but sweet design. It has a slight Scandi colour palette but at a much lower price than other brands.
As much as I love the new Eef Lillemor designs for 2016 their existing range just ooze cuteness. The sweetest ice creams, clouds or cactus all in their signature pastel shades.
We do love feathers here at RMF and I’m half tempted to add this Casadeco Red Indian feather wallpaper elsewhere in the house too.
Characters
I am not the biggest fan of character prints in bedrooms. I see enough of Peppa Pig in the daytime. That said some of my greatest childhood memories were when my mum relented and let me and my sister decorate our bedroom with Snatch the Dog (am I showing my age?!) borders, curtains and duvets. Or my favourite Strawberry shortcake and My Little Pony bedding sets that my Aunty bought all the way from America.
My girls love Julia Donaldson and actually this Grufflo paper from B&Q is really rather lovely. With all the favourite characters but in a small repeat pattern it would work well in a woodland inspired bedroom that littles will adore.
I have seen many nurseries decorated with gorgeous Roald Dahl prints. From curtains to paper these timeless Matilda and Golden Ticket wallpapers feature classic illustrations that children big and small will love them for years. Plus they are only £12 a roll so you can afford to do a larger area.
What young boy, or girl for that matter, wouldn’t love this Marvel wallpaper. Yes it is bold and yes it is brash but that is the appeal. B&Q have also just introduced a colour in Marvel version which would be super fun in a playroom.
And then of course there are Wall stickers but I’ll save that post for another day!
Super cute. I love the native tepee wallpaper from Ferm Living. I’m dying to get Isla a tepee for her 2nd birthday. I just love all the danish designed things! x
And I do Katy – I’m definitely eyeing up a tipi for Hector’s second birthday although it’s not until October! I love this one:
http://skandivis.co.uk/kids_homeware/hippie-tipi-play-tent-grey.html#.VpTJlzby4nU
I say definitely get Isla a tipi!
I now need to find space for a tipi too. I need a bigger house! x
What a gorgeous selection of wallpapers! We’re in the process of getting our 2.5 year olds new room ready and I want to wallpaper the wall behind her bed, so this is perfect timing. I may have already spent far too long browsing them all when I’m supposed to be working! x
Sara I had my heart set on Daniel Heath’s circus themed wallpaper for Hector’s nursery ( http://www.danielheath.co.uk/item/hire-wire-wallpaper/ ) but as we’re not in our house just yet I’ve had to stick to paint for now. I say go for it on the wallpaper front (I’m a bit envious actually!) – let us know what you finally choose (we’re very nosy!).
Oh Lolly, I love that one. When we chose the owl wallpaper in the nursery it was a toss up between that and a vintage Cath Kinston Circus esq one. So many fun ways of doing the room if you go circus. You will have so much fun when you finally have Hectors room xx
We’re not back in our house yet either, but a girl can dream (and pray that the end of the month move in date really comes true!). That circus wallpaper is gorgeous, Lauren! My little girl loves animals especially elephants so I’m considering this: http://www.wallpaperdirect.com/products/katie-bourne-interiors/merry-go-circus/87870. But then I keep getting distracted by other wallpapers too (these birds would be amazing too: http://www.wallpaperdirect.com/products/osborne-little/cockatoos/80115). …
I may have just ordered a large number of samples!
I love circus themes and those cockatoos are AMAZING! x
I love Quentin Blake so the cockatoos wallpaper is right up my street Sara! So gorgeous!
Hi Sara, I’ve just seen your comment on my merry go circus wallpaper, I hope you love the samples when they arrive. let me know if you need any more 🙂
Katie xx

Sorry, I’m sure work won’t mind. He he! Happy choosing x
Oh ladies I can’t cope with how much I love you. We’ve just done the guest room, now we’re about to decorate the spare room and our bedroom… so you’ve made me a happy girl with the double wallpaper hit on RMF & RMS today.
There’s a bit of a question mark over which of our bedrooms will become the nursery so we’re choosing paper that can cross over (as you say Lottie, just on one wall).
We’ve picked a lovely Scion paper for the little room https://www.scion.uk.com/shop/wallpaper/guess-who-wallpapers/lots-of-dots/?code=NSCK111283 (in hemp/biscuit/maize)… but now you’re turning my head! I kind of love it, but do we wait until we know if it’s going to be a nursery and go all out fun paper?
Right, now over to RMS for master bedroom inspiration… xx
I love Scion Karen. They do some amazing prints and I think the prices are pretty reasonable compared to a lot of papers out there. I have their fox design on my landing. I actually think that half the kids papers out there could work for adults and vice versa so either would work. You could go for more of a pattern and then jazz it up with loads of fun accessories when it becomes a nursery. Some of the Ferm living wallpapers would be great in a grown up scheme but stick some fabulous prints, banners and maybe a felt animal head or two and you have the cutest nursery xx
Oh I adore the fox design, I was very tempted to go for that one. I love how the Lots of Dots design has been styled here in a nursery on the JL website, and have my eye on a few accessories already. http://johnlewis.scene7.com/is/image/JohnLewis/234936790alt2?$prod_main$
Some great tips for me there too, thank you, I’ll take a look at Ferm Living and I’m itching to have a proper look at that GP & J Baker fern paper on the main RMS image… roll on lunchtime x
Oh wow. That is super lovely. x
Oh lovely post! We’ve just started looking at wallpaper options for the nursery – I love putting it up and how it can transform a room! I’m leaning towards this: http://www.wilko.com/kids-wallpaper/rasch-childrens-stripe-wallpaper-271584/invt/0402499 as we want something that will last for a while.
We’ve used the Wilko wall paper before and I found it really good quality, it hangs well, too! And they have some adorable ones for older children (the Vintage Mickey, the Forager or the classic Marvel ones for instance!).
I must check out Wilko. Their paint is really good too. I do love a good stripe xx
Definitely! They do some wicked print ones, too! I’ve been trying to post on RMS by the way but I don’t think the page likes me 🙁 Every time I comment, it says awainting moderation and then it disappears 🙁 I’m defintiely not a troll but it’s a tad depresssing..
Hmmm, let me look in to that for you Maike. We know you are nice so you should be able to post!! x
Thank you x (and sorry for derailing the post!)
I love wallpapers! Helps that my hubby runs a wallpaper website; love all the nursery ones on here – http://www.fashionwallpaper.co.uk/nursery-wallpaper.html
My 2 year old daughter has this one in her room and it’s gorgeous, so Scandi – we get lots of comments on it – http://www.fashionwallpaper.co.uk/cole-and-son-punchinello-wallpaper-103-2010.html
If we have another baby, I think we will go for this one – so classy … http://www.fashionwallpaper.co.uk/jane-churchill-one-hundred-acre-wood-map-wallpaper-j129w-02.html#
Oh my gosh. I may be lost on this website for a short while now. All my favourite designers. You lucky lucky thing x
Oh Lydia what have you done to us? I’m getting no work done this afternoon.
Ask your hubby if he has a discount code for us! 😉 Thanks for sharing xx
Haha, I know there’s some lovely designs aren’t there. We’ve got his wallpapers throughout our whole house; seems a waste just to paint a room when there are so many lovely wallpapers to choose from!
I will ask him about discount code, I know there’s a sale on at the mo so worth a butchers … apologies in advance for the time you’ll be spend not working and instead scrolling through pages of wallpaper! It’s amazing how an hour can just disappear … 😉 xx
Oh my word, these are ??
I may just have to purchase those flamingos for Emmy’s new room. They are seriously gorgeous xxx
Do it Tabitha!!
Flamingos are the best Tabitha! x
yes, do it! x
Enablers the lot of you ?
P.S. Bought!
Oh my gosh! Now I’m considering wall paper for the nursery. We’re waiting to find out if bump is a boy or girl so I can go crazy on the decorating. I’m excited about a post on wall stickers as that is my current plan
So exciting Katherine. I’ll get on to the wall stickers asap as there are some amazing ones out there. I have spied pineapples and flamingos recently! x
We love the Two by Two wallpaper! A close second is Animal and Wild. Think we’re going to need a bigger house.
The two by two is such a good paper Adrian! x
I wasn’t planning on decorating our baby’s room with wallpaper but you may be changing my mind. To be honest hanging it worries me slightly as my dad used to be in the forces and we were never allowed wallpaper so I have only ever lived with painted rooms. Wall stickers on the other hand I’m more on board with so yes please to a post about them.
