There’s a distinct chill in the air and the mornings are a darn sight darker than they were when I was getting up a month ago. It’s most definitely Autumn folks and with it brings woolly hats and scarves and snuggly clothes. So it was only right then to include a round-up of the best toddler coats this week on the blog for boys and girls.

M&S

I find M&S can be a bit hit and miss. I wasn’t hugely impressed with their Spring/Summer collections this year but I’m loving their coats and jackets for Winter.

I’ve gone for a rather classic collection here…all peacoats and trenches but I find that these styles endure, are practical and look rather sweet too. Apologies if these aren’t really your style; I’m a sucker for the traditional.

Let’s start with this girls blue peacoat made from a wool blend with button fastenings. It’s sweet enough to work for both school and for home and the pleated dart at the back adds a bit of interest to proceedings. Apparently there’s a bit of stretch in the fabric too; available in sizes up to 7 years.

I adore this mustard coloured parka with a faux fur finish around the hood for extra warmth and comfort. It’s smart but practical too with added fleecy lining inside for the coldest weather and d hood for keeping away the rain. I’m so very tempted to get one for Hector as the length is perfect for his current obsession with climbing anything in sight!

If you’re after something a little less bright then this khaki peacoat might be just the ticket. The hood is detachable so if you’re going somewhere a little bit smarter then the larger lapels can take centre stage. I also really like the button detailing on the sleeves and the patterned lining. Both this coat and the parka are available in sizes up to 7 years.

Zara

For the first time ever I’ve really not been that impressed with Zara’s clothing collection for toddlers. I can’t believe that I’m actually even saying that! The exception to the rule has got to be this girl’s navy blue duffle coat with fur lined hood. The lining is pretty darn good too! Available in sizes up to four years.

Mothercare

Staying on the fur-lined hood theme, this khaki floral number from Mothercare has been designed with wadding and a soft fleece lining; perfect for keeping warm on a chilly day outside. The hood will keep little ears warm and the print is girly without being saccharine.

For the mini Mavericks check out this aviator bomber jacker with greeny blue tartan inspired check. Crafted from a warm wool blend the bomber has a cream fluffy collar, zip fastening with zip guard to prevent skin pinching! Now your littles can aeroplane to their heart’s content.

John Lewis

I’m so sorry John Lewis but I feel you have gone off the boil as well. Sad times although your pyjamas still rock and your toddler socks this year are totally on point. But I digress, today is all about the coats or specifically this red duffle beauty which is only available in sizes up to three years.

Crafted from a lightweight and durable fabric, this coat incorporates ribbed cuffs, and a snug hood with a fluffy lining. Plus it’s coming up to Christmas so they’ll totally be on colour trend.

Gap

I’ve gone dotty for this spotty number at Gap. A lightweight puffa jacket with Primaloft which provides all of the warmth and none of the bulk. The outer quilted layer is water-repellent and the hidden elasticated cuffs prevent water splashing up little arms…and it’s all topped off by the fleecy lining inside. Lush!

Boden

I love patterned clothing on kids; I’m not sure why it is but as we grow older we tend to veer away from loud colours and prints…well I have anyway. Boden’s sherpa lined anoraks are wonderfully versatile and completely unisex and available in sizes from 2-12 years. Rainproof and eco-friendly to boot, you can be sure your toddler remains dry while staying kind to the environment too. The fleece lining will provide all the cosy feels as well. Result! I like the dark grey space print for budding astronauts but there’s plain versions too. Also if you’re looking for awesome ski jackets then you need to check this design out as well.

COS

I actually purchased this coat for Hector for this year’s wintry season (which you can see him running about in on my Instagram feed). Designed in a parka coat style, the coat is super versatile. There’s a removable gillet lining and a detachable hood and the cuffs are elasticated to boot. Made from cotton (so machine washable!), there are two large front pockets, a hidden zip and press button fastenings and a rounded hem that is slightly longer at the back. I love it and Hector does too plus the style is completely unisex which means I’ll keep it for the next one too.

The White Company

For those mamas looking for a girl’s coat that isn’t necessarily pink or glittery, may I present this grey marl wool princess coat from The White Company. Super cosy and made from thick and indulgent boiled wool, the coat is finished with a double-breasted cut and two side pockets for little hands.

Mamas & Papas

It was naughty Lottie that had the whole of the RMF team swooning over the brand new nursery collection from Mamas and Papas last week. Honestly the cushions and coverlets are to die for so it’s worth checking them out! Whilst I was browsing I came across this Liberty print bomber jacket which admittedly isn’t going to be much use on the frostiest of days but is oh so sweet for mild Autumn trips to the park. The print is exquisite and the hidden pockets and vintage detailing are spot on.

Cath Kidston

I never remember to check out Cath Kidston for their clothes but a recent email prompted me to pop by and check out the site last week. I absolutely love their pyjamas (so tempted to get this set for Hector’s Christmas stocking!) and can attest to the quality of their designs.

In my humble opinion you can never beat a duffle coat for optimum warmth so I particularly love this smart blue duffle from Cath Kidston complete with sweet soldier print on the inside. Padded for warmth, there are two front pockets and the loveliest faux horn toggle button fastenings. Available in ages up to 6 years.

Have any of you bought your little’s winter coat yet? What have you gone for? And are you like me and always buy them at least a size too big so they can grow into it? 😉
