Now that we’re well and truly into December (honestly where has this year gone?!) I feel that we can legitimately talk about Christmas. Not to put the fear into you but there’s pretty much only three weeks to go! Eeeek. I haven’t done any present shopping yet so I’m feeling woefully unprepared!
In the spirit of procrastination whilst I try to figure out what I’m buying my nearest and dearest I thought I’d share with you the best Christmas outfits for kids that I’ve discovered on my internet travels. Whilst it’s Hector’s second Christmas, it’s the first where I feel I can dress him up in something more exciting than a standard baby grow and I feel that a Christmas jumper or three is most definitely required!
M&S
Marks and Spencer’s Christmas offering for kids is pretty darn good this year. Actually the brand has upped its game in lots of areas and I feel it’s one to watch going into 2016. First up is this ruby red number for the girls complete with Peter Pan collar and just the right amount of party sparkle and only £20 to boot! I love how they’ve accessorised the frock with a traditional pair of Mary Janes which ticks all of my classic Christmas boxes…if only they made it in bigger sizes…
If you’re looking for something a little more low key then this navy blue t-shirt complete with glittery polar bears is for you. Of course you don’t necessarily have to save it for Christmas Day; in fact this top is just the ticket for a spot of outdoor ice-skating or for a trip to find the perfect Christmas tree. Available from 12 months – 7 years.
For the boys then I heartily recommend this festive green jumper emblazoned with computer game style graphics in the form of skiers. It’s cool enough for the older boys (available from 5-14 years) and warm enough to keep mums and grans happy too and starting from £12 it’s nothing short of a bargain!
Zara
Two words. Velvet dungarees. Whichever person on the Zara Kids design team came up with this idea needs a medal; I blinking love them! Chocolate brown and gorgeously luxe, these dungarees can be dressed up for Christmas dinner with a sparkly top and dressed down for Boxing Day with chunky sweatshirt and Dr Martins.
For the princesses in the family I heartily recommend this tulle overlay caramel skirt paired naturally with this matching quilted crown hairband. So pretty and everyone looks good in caramel. If you really do want a little bit of sparkle then this smokey grey sequin tulle skirt is super cute too!
For older boys looking for something a bit sharp, a little bit James Bond-esque I’d heartily recommend that they get their fix at Zara. There are grandad collared shirts with contrasting details and navy velvet suits with extra large lapels. I’m sensing velvet is a theme here…Starting from £23 and fitting boys from 4-14 years, you could pretty much kit out the whole family.
Boden
I’ve found that Boden is becoming more and more popular as each season passes by and you really do need to get in early if you have any hope in scoring a coveted knit for your little ones from the brand. Luckily for Hector, Gramme was quick-witted enough to bag a few cutesy jumpers earlier this year but I noticed whilst ‘researching’ this post that there isn’t a whole heap left after the Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions.
You can’t go wrong though with this sledging pigeon t-shirt (or is it a puffin?) which is still available in all sizes from 1-12 years. If you have a little one then there’s still sizes left up to 3 years in this Festive Tree T-shirt complete with colourful pompom baubles which would look equally as awesome paired with a pair of jeans as it would with a pretty skirt.
Lastly for the teeny tinys there’s this fabulous envelope neck t-shirt in advent calendar style which will take them all the way up to Christmas Day.
John Lewis
You know that you can always count on John Lewis to provide a standard Christmas jumper offering and they’ve come up trumps. Red or blue complete with jazzy patterns and stag motifs, both jumpers are a wardrobe basic in my opinion when it comes to Winter wear. Get yours here and here.
For older girls who want to sport something a little bit sparkly but are keen to avoid channeling full on Disney sparkle, can I suggest this jacquard dress in black and gold. Rough it up with boots and thick tights or go full on girly with sparkly Mary Janes and a cardi. Alternatively this purple sequin frock from Jigsaw is also a winner in my book; it may look like a jumper and skirt but actually it’s a 2-in-1. Easy peasy.
Joules
If you’re looking for gimmicky punchlines and clever plays on words then Joules has it by the bagful! They’ve produced a range of long-sleeved t-shirts all printed up with a festive quote or two for comedy value. Chilling With My Snowmies has got to be my favourite but Living Life on the Sledge has the added bonus of being glow in the dark too. Available in sizes from 3-12 years but hurry as some sizes were low on stock the last time I looked.
Elias & Grace
I discovered Elias & Grace recently and granted it is at the pricier end of the spectrum. Time it right however and you could end up with a bargain – especially if it’s a special event or time of year that you’re purchasing for.
There are a myriad of things I would have purchased if I had a little girl – this glitzy skirt paired with these golden shoes being just two of the many items on my virtual shopping list. Perfect for Christmas and well any party occasion really. In fact just any occasion full stop. If you can’t wear full on glamour when you’re six then frankly when can you??
For the more unisex babes in your life then these soft grey star print leggings are very on Winter theme and would work very well indeed with this Brr t-shirt. Alternatively this grey organic cotton mix baby all-in-one with snowman on the front is so cute that I’m almost tempted to have another baby immediately…I said almost.
Oh and if someone could make this dress in adult sizes I’m first in line! Oh and GLITTER CLOGS.
Tu at Sainsbury’s
There’s been much chat amongst the RMF team of late about Sainsbury’s own brand clothing label. Essentially about the decent quality and even more appealing prices that the brand offers and also the convenience factor of picking up a few things here and there during the weekly shop. After a friend of mine shared a picture of her little boy in these adorable Christmas pudding slippers I knew I just had to check out what they were offering. I wasn’t disappointed either. If you love the slippers then you’re going to adore this Christmas Pudding romper which fits toddlers up to 24 months. Plus it’s just been reduced to a bargainous £6!
I’ve also fallen in love with their selection of Christmas jumpers which wouldn’t have looked out of place circa 1990. Given that the late 80s and early 90s were prime Father Christmas believing years for me I’m feeling an irresistible urge to buy some of these knits including this one and this one. My sister would so wear the latter to the pub right now. Both have been reduced in the sale and are available in sizes 3-12 years.
Lastly can we take a moment to appreciate the genius of this Mrs Claus red knitted dress with knee high socks. It’s times like this when I wish I had a girl…
Gap
There are hundreds of pieces of party wear available to buy from Gap at the moment for tiny littles all the way up to tweenies age. I resisted the urge to add everything to my shopping bag but just had to share this jumper and this amazing dress with baby deer romping around on the hem which would look awesome with a chunky arran knit cardigan.
So are you dressing your littles up for any festivities over the holidays? Will you be having a Christmas jumper competition? Why not tell us all about it below.
I couldn’t find a decent Xmas jumper for my 2 year old daughter this year – one that wasn’t overpriced, all nasty acrylic or hideously “girly” so I went for good old M&S – 100% cotton and only £12 http://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-fair-isle-jumper-1-7-years-/p/p22409760?OmnitureRedirect=Pure+Cotton+Fair+Isle+Christmas+Jumper&ddkey=http:MSFindItemsByKeyword
Found in the boys’ section, of course! However I wish I had seen the polar bear top you’ve linked, it’s so cute! Other than this I have bought her two long sleeve t-shirts from Tescos which are actually really nice and not at all garish – one in navy with a silver star and a cream one with robins, though why I buy her anything in cream is a mystery as she’s the messiest eater in the world!!
Ahhh Sophie that’s cute! Personally I don’t see anything wrong with looking in departments other than the one that you’re ‘supposed’ to. And I hear you on the cream thing – my favourite cardigan of Hector’s is a cream cable knit which he inevitably trashes in five seconds flat!
I may have gone a little overboard on Christmas fashion this year…I’ve bought a jumper from John Lewis (which I think I’ll have to take back as I have too much stuff!) the cutest appliqué jumper and some pudding print tights from Sainsburys (only £2 – thanks for the recommendation Lolly!) as well as various frocks rom GAP for “Christmas Day”. At this rate Mabel will be having a full on fashion show on the 25th.
Also can we just talk about Sainsburys clothing for kids? Amazing. And such good quality. The tights for girls are THE BEST I’ve ever had – and I’ve tried pretty much every brand.
I may very well be popping to Sainsbury’s today to check all the goodness out in the flesh…
I’m also a huge fan of Sainsbury’s clothing for littles – really good quality and very reasonable prices. We’re on a bit of a budget this year, so I couldn’t justify spending lots on an outfit that my 16 month old would wear once or twice! So she’ll be sporting a snazzy tshirt and leggings combo on Christmas day, which was very bargainous! http://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/tustorefront/?pagetype=product&productcode=128497415-Cream and http://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/tustorefront/?pagetype=product&productcode=128381682-Navy. Both of which were bought when Sainsbury’s had a 25% off promo for the grand total of £4.49!! And in finding the links for this comment, I see that they currently have 25% off again until 7th December!! We don’t shop there normally, so I was really pleased that they’ve started doing online shopping – if you spend £15 then click and collect is free – before then I had some wasted trips if they didn’t have the right sizes – I’m a big fan of their four packs of tshirts for Orla’s three day nursery week!!
I’m the same, I have tutu’s, dresses & Jumpers coming out of my ears for Anabelle, but haven’t found anything for the boys yet. They are getting fussier as they get older. I think we may just stick with a plaid shirt.
I definitely found it was harder looking for boys attire for this post. Girls seem to always want to dress up regardless of their style whereas it seems there’s less out there for boys particularly for the older years. Hopefully this situation will improve by the time Hector gets to that age….
I’m quite fond of the Green M&S jumper you popped in the post Lolly. I think it’s just their age. I’ll run it by them when they get back from school 😉 xx
Ooooh let me know what they think!
Another vote for sainsbury’s TU range. They seem to do 25% off regularly on the last weekend of every month….Nanny is sent with a list as her local store is miles better than the ones close to me for clothing.
