There is a ridiculous amount of Christmas cuteness around for the kids at the moment but today is about you lovely lot. Not novelty and reindeers I’m afraid but good old posh frocks and cosy knits. In (hopeful) preparation of this weekends mammoth deals I have put together this little selection of loveliness.
As much as I love all out festive glamour I’m a mum and have to be practical and remember most of my days will be spent tearing around and attending everything from school nativity plays to kids Christmas jumper parties (don’t ask). I am also planning a few much needed drinks with friends and of course the big day itself. This in my opinion needs a bit of a posh outfit as I love nothing better than getting dressed up in new threads come Christmas morning. I’m very much in to mixing a bit of glitz and a bit of comfort that looks like you’ve made an effort but can still have you crawling round on the floor after the little ones. Obviously there may be times that require full on glitz and child free glamour so you may find a few sequins sneaking their way in there.
{Tops & Jumpers}
In the summer I bought a few things from the Archive by Alexa collection at M&S and this season the pieces are that touch more glam. I’ve had my eye on the silver Aire shirt which would be perfect paired with some skinny jeans and cute ballet pumps for day or a pair of heels for evening.
For those pregnant mamma’s then I love the simple PJ styling of this star shirt from Topshop. It would be great with a pair of black maternity jeans or leggings and could easily work from the office to a catch up with friends.
This lovely Mamalicious festive green top is the right amount of smart and works as both a maternity and nursing top.
I love a cosy jumper and have been wearing them with a more dressy skirt to get that smart casual look down to a tee.
I actually spied a few good knits whilst doing the weekly shop in Sainsburys. This cream and black bobble jumper will be nice with a little black leather skirt I may just be purchasing! I also loved the tie back detailing of this festive dark green jumper.
This cream jumper from M&S has the loveliest red floral detailing so it feels a bit festive but you can carry on wearing it long after Santa has been.
A little pricier is this star print sweatshirt from Whistles but I figure Christmas allows you to splash out. I actually think it would look lovely with a bit of a sparkly skirt.
Now not technically a top but I couldn’t resist dropping in this leopard print coat from New Look. I’ve become a bit of a convert since Rock My Style’s Lauren told me that Leopard print is practically a neutral. you could throw this on with black jeans and a polo neck and have an instantly jazzier outfit.
{Skirts and Dresses}
Our christmas party theme this year is “the glitterati’ so it seems only fair that I get some sparkles. How is it that I own no sequins in my wardrobe?
I spied this pink skirt of dreams on Instagram and it may need to be purchased. It would look gorgeous with a cosy black jumper and thick tights.
I am also loving Next at the moment and have already purchased this cute silver faux leather skirt. It’s only £22 which is a bargain in my eyes. I also love their sequin skirts at just over £30. They have actually styled one with a hoody which isn’t something I would have thought of but why the hell not. Total smart casual in one hit.
Velvet is a favourite of mine at the moment and I’m thinking this velvet pleated dress from Oasis would be a lovely Christmas day outfit. Albeit one that will be most likely be covered in a pinnie most of the day seen as I’m on cooking duty.
This little wrap dress from H&M is super cute and would be ideal for breastfeeding.
If you need a maternity dress for fancy nights out then the twist front dress from Topshop has just the right amount of subtle sparkle.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a touch of red in your outfit and I love this cute red skirt from H&M. It would be perfect with the cream floral M&S jumper I mention above.
{Shoes}
You may remember I mentioned lusting after these Boden leopard print boots and I’m pleased to say I made the purchase. Oh my, I love them! I’ve been wearing them lots to jazz up my everyday outfits from jeans to my denim shirt dress. Do you think I need the grey pair too? They do have 30% off at the moment…
We recently attended the M&S Spring Summer preview and these gorgeous ballet pumps caught my eye. Such a great price and I adore the cute strap detail. You could wind higher up your leg if you have a skirt on or just around your ankle when it’s a trouser day.
As I’m normally running about after small children there are times (ok most of the time) when practicality is called for and the trainers are pulled on. Over the summer I was sporting a pair of grey Superga but as I’m feeling all festive I am splashing out on the rose gold pair. I figure they will jazz up a simple skirt and jumper combo or even my trusty skinnies.
So there you have my favourite bits of glitz and comfort rolled in to one. If on the other hand all you want to do is sit around in your PJs (which I know I do) then yesterday Rock My Style shared the loveliest collection of loungewear for you. Do do let me know if you have you been making any festive purchases that I need to know about?
It’s like you’ve read my mind! Pretty sure my outfit for the big meeting will involve some sort of fine knitwear and metallic combo ? LOVE those ballet pumps! X
Yay. I too will be sporting knits and sequins so we can be matchy matchy xx
Love the mix of sequins and knits. Also, that leopard print jacket has been reduced! VERY tempted…
Do it!! xx
I’ve got to nip into town to run some errands today…..I should probably go and try that jacket on if they have it…..!
You probably should. x
FMLY store (they do the Mama sweaters) have a special cashmere blend version out for Christmas with part of the proceeds going to a brilliant charity. Just saying as I really really want one…
Ooooh, me too now. xx
I love that Topshop twist front dress – gorgeous! x
I actually wish it was non maternity, it’s lovely x
Lottie, I think we may be shoe twins! I am currently wearing those Boden boots in grey, and I also have the grey Supergas! The boots are lovely, but I’d say they’re more of a grey-brown than a true grey so depends what you’re after.
Hi Twinny! Excellent choices on the shoe front Tanne and I reckon I could cope with grey brown. They are so lovely xx
I think I’m going to struggle a bit in the style stakes this year. Little one is due any day now so for Christmas I’m unlikely to fit back into any of my pre-maternity wear (really hoping some of my shoes/ boots will fit again!) but none of my maternity stuff is very festive either. I’ve bought one maternity Christmas jumper which I’ll probably end up chucking on with my maternity jeans even though I will no longer be pregnant by Christmas, but other than that I think I’ll just have to stay in my pjs. Oh and then throw in breastfeeding, I’ll end up having to pull my jumper up all the time anyway ?
I had Molly a month before Christmas and I spend most of the festive period in my maternity jeans and shirts or leggings and pretty tops. I figured comfort and feeding came first over fashion. Also, its perfectly reasonable to stay in pjs at Christmas. Good luck with the new arrival. Can’t wait to hear the news xxx
Little Frederick was born 6.12.16 ☺ Can’t believe he is a week old already! A bit of a traumatic birth and had to go back into hospital for a couple if days but home now and hopefully staying there. Now having to look at my wardrobe in a slightly different way – anything that doesn’t sit in my cesarean scar xx
