Once you have a baby you realise just how much you need muslins in your life. They get used for everything from mopping up the inevitable milk bubbles to a cosy liner for you changing mat. They are also perfect as a cover up when feeding and the larger sizes are excellent for swaddling.
I always had stacks on them around the house and we got through A LOT. The plain white ones were inevitably in mass supply but it was the cute printed ones that I favoured for out and about. I am incredibly jealous of the amount of amazing designs that are out there now and wish they had been around when mine were little so I thought I would share some of my favourites with you. They make excellent newborn gifts too and are something that will always be used.
I am starting with my current crush who I cam across on good old Instagram. Blue Nest Baby have some of the cutest designs and colour ways I have seen. The pink bunny design is beautiful but the badger and foxes have also stolen my heart. They are just adorable and I am planning quite a few gifts of these to friends in coming months. They also do the same designs in muslin sheets and quilts which look super soft for baby to sleep on.
When my girls were little Aden & Anais were some of the only really fun designs out there and they still continue to please with their bright and fun patterns. These super sized jungle themed ones are great for swaddling or as a quick playmat when out and about.
I lusted after the Storksak bags when pregnant and I’m pleased to see they now do some stylish and understated muslin designs too.
Marks & Spencer have been winning in the baby clothes designs stakes for the past few years and they always have a gorgeous selection of accessories and essentials to go alongside these. I love their muslin squares and they are always such great value. This fun duck print set is full of bold colours but I also have to mention this beautiful muted set filled with mustard, pink and mint.
Mamas & Papas has become my go to for nursery designs and I love the range of muted colours and on trend prints they roll out. This set has a lovely shooting star and graphical grey triangle design.
For bright and bold it has to be the Little Bird range at Mothercare and their muslin pack is no exception. Harking back to the retro prints of my own childhood these are a colourful addition for any nursery.
If you are obsessed with all things pineapple then this pack of three muslins from The Modern Nursery will not disappoint. With a gorgeous monochrome design they are a great buy.
I have lusted after the Fine Little Day bedding for the girls and they also have a gorgeous large muslin blanket in the same graphic designs. This beautiful tree design is just gorgeous, and dare I say it, a lovely Christmas gift!
This bright and fun animal ark giant muslin from Pehr at Roses and The Stars is just lovely. Covered in animal outlines and coloured giraffes, hippos and more it’s a lovely piece to have with you.
Finally we are heading down to the farm at The White Company with this farmyard print set. It’s sweet tractor and animal design is just lovely.
Has anyone else spotted any lovely Muslin designs that we should know about?

Those ones from Blue Nest Baby are lovely 🙂 A pretty and practical gift idea!
They are so cute aren’t they. I’m planning lots of gifting of these very soon! x
You must have read my mind Lottie, as last night I was searching for swaddling muslins that were a bit more interesting!
We are due our second daughter in February and the list of what we need is pretty small this time round, but I’m going to get a couple of new swaddle muslins as I found them invaluable during the first couple of months.
I’ve got my eye on some from Aden and Anais and Muzzies.co.uk have some nice ones too but I had totally forgotten about looking on The Modern Nursery….those minty tree ones are right up my street and the Blue Nest Baby ones are super cute too…..I just want them all!
I actually found a few nice ones on Amazon yesterday when I was looking for about £7/8 so its worth a look on there too.
Great post! X
Hooray, glad we could help Jane! I always forget to look on Amazon for things like this so will definitely take a peek. Happy shopping xx
TK Maxx and Homesense always have Aden and Anais as well as lots of other lovely muslins for a snip of the price. My bargain of the year was a A&A Dream blanket for my nephew for £19 down from £50!!
Mine are two and six and I still buy muslins from time to time haha!
Amazing, love an ace TK Maxx bargain. Excellent tip x
If you haven’t got any you must try muslins from Boots! I have cute penguin ones and elephant ones. They are a great size and also the softest ones we own! Oh and dont forget the Boots points that can then be used on mama treats!
I always had the Boots plain ones so great recommendations. Also, yes yes yes, to Boots points! x
Loved Aden and Anais with my first, they really are so soft, so much more so than others I tried so I would be interested to know the quality of the other ones suggested if anyone has personal experience. I must say I love the look of the Pehr, The Modern Nursery and Fine Little Day ones.
Also, for anyone living in London, it is worth keeping an eye out for the Aden and Anais sample sales. The last one was in August I think, but they have them a couple of times a year.
I’ve been wanting those Little Bird ones for a while and since we had our detailed scan today and all is good I’m going to treat myself! Thanks Lottie!
Bit late to comment here but also check out Mama Designs and Etta Loves for GORGEOUS muslins. I also have my eye on the Aden & Anais new metallic range!

Yes!! We love the muslins by Etta Loves – great designs and patterns and they not only look good but are ” designed to enhance her cognitive and visual development”. Can’t go wrong then!!
I have these too from Etta Loves!!! They are amazing… not only are they really funky and a joy to have slung over my shoulder… and dotted around at an arms length to me… they are gorgeous designs and yes as you said – designed for tiny eyes too which is genius!!!
Our muslins certainly are the best patterned ones out there, who wouldnt want style and baby development in one beautiful muslin! Thanks for the love ladies x
Ooooh I also really like Etta Loves muslins as they are not only huge, stylish but clever as they help babies eye development. If that wasn’t enough they are super soft and designed for each stage of your babies visual development. Fab pressies for new mums x
