It seems only five minutes since it was Christmas and we were drowning amidst waves of wrapping paper and presents and cakes and turkey sandwiches. I know that for many January can be a somewhat depressing month after the fun and games of December but I for one embrace the challenge of a new year and a fresh start.
January also marks for me the beginning of another year in the garden and following on from the successes of last year’s vegetable patch (which you can read about over on Rock My Style) I’m eagerly preparing for more garden exploits. Hector is now super mobile and I’m hoping to include him in various green-fingered activities so he’ll be joining me outside later this month to give me a helping hand. With this in mind I’ve been searching for the perfect all-in-one to keep him bundled up against the cold and thought I’d share the fruits of my snowsuits search with you lovely lot in case you were looking for something similar. Plus with the January sales you’re sure to pick up a bargain or two!
M&S
Marks and Spencer’s have a plethora of snowsuits on offer at the moment and whilst I’ve not experienced their snowsuit product personally I’ve heard good things from friends that have which you’d pretty much expect from the brand. There are various assorted prints and stripes if this flora number and this star studded version aren’t your thing. Starting from £18 you can’t go far wrong…you’ll have to be quick though as some sizes were running very low on stocks.
Boden
Everyone in the RMLtd team loves Boden and we’re talking small and big kids alike. I’ve always got my eye on a pair of shoes from their current collection and I’ll often pop a couple of items for Hector in my shopping basket whilst I’m perusing the site. Their snowsuit offering is no exception being both waterproof and fleece-lined with the added extras of built-in mittens and detachable booties. They have both a star and giant floral print available in various sizes in the sale at the moment discounted from £40.00 to £24.00 so grab one whilst you can!
John Lewis
Hector had a John Lewis snowsuit last year which I’ve mentioned in previous posts here on Rock My Family and it didn’t disappoint. Super snuggly and with matching mittens and a fur-lined hood you really do feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. This navy blue number is pretty much identical to the one I had last year albeit in a different colour and I’m sorely tempted to buy it again given its superb quality even when it’s been through the wash on a number of occasions. It’s worth noting that sizes 9-12 months and up do not have enclosed feet to allow children to wear boots.
TK Maxx
I’d never really considered looking at TK Maxx until a friend of mine suggested I look at the range and I was actually pretty impressed. Granted you’re never going to access a full range of sizes and it is a bit of a lucky dip but time it right and you might come across a bargain or two. If labels are your thing then you’ll probably be thrilled with the discounted snowsuits on offer; I actually really liked this floral all-in-one for girls at a bargainous £12.99 but it is only available in sizes up to 6 months.
Mamas & Papas
Sweeter than the sugar plum fairy, this pink quilted number from Mamas & Papas is super cute. Jersey lined for comfort and warmth, the snowsuit comes with mittens and is machine washable at 40 degrees making it uber practical to boot. If pink isn’t your colour then the all-in-one comes in the colour ‘sand’ too and is available in sizes up to 9 months. If only they made them in adult sizes…
Frugi
For the ecologically conscious mamas I highly recommend Frugi and their ‘Billie Pram Suit‘ which is made from 100% recycled fibres and available in two prints; cars and hedgehogs. Made with a water resistant outer fabric, the inside is made from the softest fleece lining. The suit also comes with integrated fold back mittens and fixed booties and a snuggly hood. Both are available up to 12 months.
Joules
Much like Boden, Joules offers both quality and style whilst remaining super practical too. This ‘Baby Everley‘ version is perfect for the princesses in your life with its fleecy lining and cosy hood and potently pink print. The suit also comes with turn back mittens and removable feet for those more mobile and there is a double zip opening for ease moving kiddos in and out of the suit too. Snap one up for only £21.95 before they go out of stock.
Polarn O.Pyret
Polarn O.Pyret are renowned for producing high quality, practical outerwear that avoids gender stereotypes by using unisex colours and prints. I for one love the Swedish brand and have a few pieces that were bought for Hector by family in the early days.
At £66.50 these blue and pink all-in-one pieces aren’t cheap but I guarantee that they will be good quality. The removable fleece lining can be removed to provide a spring waterproof for when the days get warmer and the double zips help you to adjust body ventilation when your littles are strapped into a push chair and to aid the whole getting dressed process too. The suit also has adjustable waist and cuffs and the detachable hood adjusts at the back as well. These designers have thought of literally everything. If you’re liking what you see then I recommend you snag one now as they usually retail for £95.00 and I have a feeling we’re in for a bit of a late Winter cold snap so you’ll definitely get your cost per wear out of them especially since they go up to 2 years.
That’s it from my snowsuits round-up. Have you purchased yours yet? If so which one did you choose? Are there any other brands you would really recommend I have a look at?
We’ve had many snowsuits over the years as we are always outdoors. My favourite purchase was the jojo maman bebe waterproof all in one for Flynn (when he was 18 months) expensive yes but so so worth it- I think it was £45. I would always recommend to get a waterproof one and to get the size up than what you usually get as you can always layer up then it lasts longer. Iris (8 months) is currently wearing a gap waterproof snowsuit size 6-12 months – bought it in Oct when they had 40% off Gap always have great discounts throughout the year. Great post x
Hi Keri – I’ve heard good things about JoJo Maman Bebe actually and probably should have included them in this round-up but so many were out of stock. Clearly this is proof of their popularity. The waterproof tip is also much appreciated – especially with all this rain we’re having!
Snowsuits are a must for our little lady with all the cold blustery mornings of football we attend supporting her Brothers. Anabelle is just growing out of her last snowsuit so I was on the prowl for a new one, these are beaut.
I’ve just picked up this one as a spare for £12 too. She can literally trash in muddle puddles for that price! http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_56707+RKN048+D_-1
Ahhhh I love that Lorna and such a bargain too! Ste tells me that we’re in for a cold snap next week so I think I’ll be purchasing one today in preparation!
Ooooo this is a bargain and so practical for taking M to the horses!
In my basket!! Thank you for the tip!
You’re welcome Jane 😉 xx
I just bought this suit for my wee boy so we could get out in the wet weather http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Regatta+Babies+Mudplay+Penguin+Suit/D589001,default,pd.html
He is so much happier if can get outside but this weather has not been helpful. This suit is more lightweight than other snowsuits but is fleece lined so I’ve found it great for letting him run about easily while keeping him warm and dry.
Milo, aged 2, spends most of his day in the garden/ mud/ puddles (sometimes simultaneously) and so we’ve seen our share of weatherproof clothing. He’s currently in a Joules number, which has been fantastic and very generously sized too. I’d also like to put in a word for those cheaper waterproof (but not insulated) suits from Millets or Blacks or the like: they seem to fare much better in the machine than their more pricey counterparts and are perfect for not-so-frigid wet days!
That’s an interesting point Em – I’ll be sure to check them out!
